To celebrate the first anniversary of the audio-visual project NOUMINA, I have decided, after much deliberation, to release it online for free download. NOUMINA uses open-source material: hi-res images from NASA, the Planetarium software Stellarium - and as such is offered to the public under a creative commons license. For release, I've never wanted to compromise on quality - which seems to be a given with web video at this point in time. So I have decided to avoid the compression ...Read More

I'll be taking part in BYOB Utrecht, a one-night-only video projection exhibition. BYOB stands for 'Bring Your Own Beamer' - that's 'projectors' for all us non-Europeans. The night is being run by Setup Media Lab, and I'm fortunate enough to have them arrange an install of Mute City Dreemz (2010) for me. From the Setup website: The white space reinvented. For one night we will take over the Utrecht Center for Fine Arts and turn the walls of the space into a ...Read More

Recently, I  had the privilege of attending an immersive cinema lab in Perth, entitled DomeLab 2010. It was a one week intensive residency on live-action content-creation for 'Full Dome' , or 'Planetarium cinema', presented by the Australian Network for Art and Technology. I was interested in attending the residency for it's immersive potential, and being a media and sound artist was intrigued about the possibilities for a high-definition cinematic experience. The workshop was a hectic 6 day experience, meeting upwards of 30 artists, designers, technicians, tutors, ...Read More

My recent film/installation work NOUMINA has been accepted into CINESONIKA, a film Festival in Vancouver, Canada. NOUMINA presents a story, an abstract narrative, a cinematic journey through the cosmos. From a twinkly gaze at the stars, we are confronted with a presence, a geometric object, and are taken on a journey to its domain. Through super hi-resolution images of the Universe, the participant experiences multi-dimensional layers, geometric viewports to other-worldly realities. Accompanied by a hypnotic original score, the piece swoons and arcs over multiple moods and territories, finishing back at our home world, again at the gaze of ...Read More

Lately I've been totally obsessed with film & cinema. I've got a few shows coming up this year (predominantly installation) and I started checking out a lot of sci-fi as part of research for the work. Slowly it bled over to just more film-watching in general. Read More

By and large I spent little time at the conference of this festival. It was just too much to do the conference, see films, exhibitions, and then manage to see all the acts of the night concerts without feeling completely exhausted. So I tended to skip the conference and come in for the night-time. I would have liked to see Jeffrey Shaw's talk, hopefully there'll be a podcast online. I managed to pick up quite a few items along the way: ...Read More

Julien Maire 'Digit' - De Balie FoyerA lone man sits at a desk passing his hand over blank pages. Miraculously, words appear, as if typed. I was unsure how this piece was executed, either by some form of 'stamp' hidden within the artists' palm, or perhaps some kind of heat sensitive system, however resulted in an intriguing and entertaining spectacle. Leeraum (Pe Lang & Zimoun) LIVE at Melkweg Media Room, AMSTRDM An interesting minimal piece that used motors controlled by pots to affect the speed of the 'necklace' objects that rotated around them. The surface under each machine was amplified by contact mics while the material was changed from cardboard to felt and other materials, affecting timbre. Read More
