I’ve been pursuing art for quite some years now. Traversed 3D, web design, imaging, video editing suites, audio sequencers, virtual instruments ~ now, i feel like I’ve almost hit the wall. It’s like that whole phase has come to an end. Probably my favourite software at the moment is Ableton Live, but I’m being pulled towards programming. Environments like MaxMSP and Processing are extremely appealing. But from a life of ‘no-code’, so to speak, to becoming one of a programmer, seems like a big choice.
Ultimately it would probably make more sense to stick with one discipline, like music, and simply collaborate with other artist who use said languages. But where are all these elusive programmers? And if you find them, man, they are probably already tied up in 20 other projects and grind code night and day.
I dabbled in Python once. I was almost sold with Python but something stopped me. Perhaps I will stick with Max and give Processing a look.
It’s a strange feeling I have. That code is the true medium of our times. To sit there moving blocks around in a sequencer, somehow feels…redundant.
